Authors Breakfast

It was so much fun to celebrate our Author Study Unit with the Author's Breakfast! Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about Mo Willems style of writing through reading his stories and writing our own books. Getting to share our Character Chart, Six Part Story Board and published stories was the perfect end to our unit! Many thanks to our families for supporting the event!

We are excited to see everyone at the Authors' Breakfast tomorrow morning at 8:00.  The students will have a chance showcase their study of Mo Willems. After learning about Mo's writing and illustrative styles, we wrote our own stories inspired by Mo's characters.  Students became published authors and are excited to share their books.

Here is a rough agenda for the big event:

7:55 Once you drop your child off out back, head to the front entrance to sign in.  Then come and join us in the classroom.

8:00 - 8:10 Students will be sharing some of the author's website with you as a whole class.

8:15 - 8:25 Authors will be introduced and books will be passed out.  Please find a comfortable spot in the classroom to sit with your child and listen to him/her read to you. Children are welcome to share their books with other adults or students in the classroom once they have finished reading to their guests.

8:30 Muffins and Juice will be served!

8:40 - 8:50  Parents Departure

If you are unable to attend, please send me an e-mail and Miss Russell and I will be sure to partner up with your child. Siblings are welcome to attend and a sibling may be your child's only guest for this event if you are unable to join us.

Math

Shapes!

For the past two weeks’ students have been learning about shapes and how to classify and sort them. We have used clay, shape graphs and math manipulatives to discuss shape properties. In the introductory lesson shown, students worked with hexagons, trapezoids, rhombuses, squares, triangles and circles to make observations about each new shape's color, size and number of corners.

Four Winds

Four Winds
This month in Four Winds the class learned about different types of snowflakes and how they are formed. The lesson started with a play(about two specs of dust who transform into snowflakes), then students were able to practice sorting different snowflakes, create snowflakes out of coffee filters and finally the class ended with a snowflake dance. Many thanks for our Four Winds volunteers.

Money March

Money March

Money march is a fun two-person game where players race to the end of the board using a spinner. The class has been learning about money and that a penny is worth one cent. In this game each spot on the board was one penny and players progressed depending on what they had spun. It was so much fun to play and practice counting pennies!
